One of the great pleasures of my extended family is that they are all of the outdoor persuasion. And so today, Sson & I boarded the big white family pick-up truck for an early excursion to Crown King high in the Bradshaws. Since the schedule also called for breakfast pie at Rock Springs, our trip took us through the desert west of I-17.
Where I found this wonderful symbol of the West. It's a piece of a vehicle. It has seen better days. And it was the subject of target practice. More often than once, I'd venture to say.
Just as wonderous is the question of just how this rear half got severed from the remainder of the vehicle. Looks like it was sliced straight off! We'll never know.
There were more mundane targets, such as this tin can up at a camp ground at Pine Creek. And, of course, almost every road sign had its share of bullet holes.
"Breakfast pie"! Mm, what's in that?
ReplyDeleteYummmm, a pie from Rock Springs! I love that place but we can't stop there too often due to usually having two dogs with us.
ReplyDeleteJuliar-- It might have been considered lunch -- we were up at 5 a.m. purpose being to photograph any snakes or Gila monsters who might be lying in the roads. Didn't spot a one!
ReplyDeleteQD -- I had the Tennessee lemon & Sson the Jack Daniels pecan. Twas yummy, for sure. Between you and me, I think the crusts at Berry's in PV are better...
If anyone was caught even carrying a gun without a cover, in this country, they would be nabbed. And as to firing one in public - that would be a jailable offence.
ReplyDeleteHow our customs differ.
Tain't just custom, Avus, it's law! (And it's Arizona, where there'd be open revolt at anything resembling gun control laws, other than more draconian penalties for crimes committed while armed. The laws vary all over the country, BTW.) The impression we get here in the USA is that one is likely to serve time in today's England if one dares to defend him/herself or one's home.
ReplyDeleteThe perforated vehicles only lacked the corpses of Bonny and Clyde next to same.
ReplyDeleteIt's novel that "defence of home' dosen't include blunderbusses over much of the planet.
Hermano
Bro -- A blunderbuss over the front door is still the fashion in some back-country homes around the USA..
ReplyDeleteGrannie - you are quite right about England! The cops appear to be on the side of the robbers when it comes to crimes against householders.
ReplyDeleteTo illustrate: the owner of a little news stall had been robbed a number of times. He then kept a baseball bat behind the counter - the next robber got a taste of it. Result was the stall owner was fined for using an "offensive weapon" and the bat was confiscated.
Get me outa here!
Avus-- why? WHY? W H Y ? ? How did this reversal of rights come to be? Who are the people (aside from the criminals) who benefit?
ReplyDeleteAvus, I read a story from England a year or two ago where a homeowner was defending his home against armed intruders - who'd literally burst through his front door - and he ran one through with a collector's sword he had handy.
ReplyDeleteThe article said the homeowner got 8 years in prison, and the intruders were described as the *victims.*
That's an outrage in anyone's country.
Those bullet-holed pieces of auto and tin and road sign look just like the ones we have in Florida, BTW.
Don't get me started on our interpretation of "Human Rights" - what about Human responsibilities?
ReplyDeleteI fear we're living in a world where individual responsibilities are being forgotten or overlooked in the rush to assert "rights"!
