Today one must wonder if the soldierly ranks of merchandise that yesterday shouted "plenty" today have suddenly symbols of unsold wares, weighing heavily on the economy (and the balance sheets of the merchants in question). Completely without a change in the picture.
Today I did my part for the economy -- a visit to the Westside WalMart. I know, The Evil Empire. But where else can I, a car-less civilian, buy sprinkler nozzles, sharp cheese , velcro strips and vitamins in one trip? There were the same military ranks on ranks of merchandise, but a surprise or two. A small display of Mardi Gras beads, for example. What impresses me the most about the WallyMart is not how economical it is, but how seldom I leave the dang place without dropping a Cnote. They have my number.
They have everyone's number; that's why Wally World is one of the few places that actually made a profit last quarter...
ReplyDeleteLined up like metal soldiers. Good fun post.
ReplyDeleteWhen I used to shop there I always came out with a lot more stuff than I intended to buy. So even though it was inexpensive, I always spent more. Maybe it's just my lack of willpower.
ReplyDeleteYour WallyMark Cnote experience is what happens with me at Costco.
ReplyDeleteYikes! They all have our numbers. LOL
~Anon in AV.
For some reason those ranks of wheelbarrows tickle my funny bone! Perhaps they anticipate a renewed interest in gardening what with the failing economy...
ReplyDeleteMaybe you didn't intend it, but this post is loaded with socio-political irony. When I first saw your photo of all those wheelbarrows I wondered why nouveau-Prescotters, from CA, would ever need such things. Isn't that the work of a servant?
ReplyDeleteThen you mentioned Walmart, the Evil Empire from the point of view of the aforementioned group. Another layer of irony.
dotter -- they do indeed have my number, even though I'm always disappointed in the grocery dept, where I can't get through my complete shopping list there. Ever.
ReplyDeletesteve -- no matter what it is, garden gnomes, toothpaste, wheelbarrows -- they are all lined up like good soldiers.
kim -- that is exactly the problem. Which is why I try to limit my exposure to the WallyWorld.
anon av -- the secret of the big boxes & why we are assimilated. Everytime.
lindag & boonie -- I fear that i misled both of you. 1)the picture was taken well before the election, when things were just starting to fall apart and 2) it was at Lowe's, not the WalMart. Somehow, when I started writing, I just segued my day's experience at WalMart.
Granny to Granny: your photos are delightful. I like AZ and come there from time to time to visit grandchildren... once even considered settling in Press-kit, but somehow got redirected back to Florida. My best memories of your charming city was the Fourth of July celebration... I'll see if I can find some of those old photos for you...
ReplyDeletesandy -- glad you enjoyed the pix -- I have a ball wandering about and seeing pictures everywhere I look. Did most of my elhi schooling in Jax long long ago -- it can be pretty but I don't think I could take the humidity at this stage of my life! Do visit again...
