If only I had been driving -- or at the very least, been pulling a little red wagon -- I could have yet another fine log as a stand for my potted garden. I espied these remains of an alley tree on my walk yesterday.
There's the stump (above) and an interesting log with two hearts (below); I don't recall what type of tree it was. This particular specimen was not one of very great significance, but it's always sad to see a tree come to its end.
A good pot holder.
ReplyDeleteThe bark looks oakey.

Isn't it amazing how many interesting sights are within walking distance, that most people don't notice!! Thanks Granny J for being one of the few that do!!
ReplyDeletesteve -- there are few items better than a nice stump for holding my flower pots.
ReplyDeletebro -- very, very likely an oak. BTW, why is it that IDing flowers is a girl thing, but that IDing trees is very much a guy thing???
lady -- when you walk the same turf day after day after day, you'd better get good at seeing new things or you'll go crazy with boredom!
I love to see the tree rings and what 'pictures' they make - but, like you, I am always sad to see a tree be cut down.
ReplyDeleteframe -- perhaps it's the desert effect: since plants have to work harder to get established here, we cherish each and every one that much more.
ReplyDeleteTrees are what Geo. Washington and other little boys, like me chop down.
ReplyDeleteFlowers means having to utilize shovel, remove weeds and alter shape of mammy's flower garden annually.

bro -- OK, so trees are a challenge to one's macho. I guess that explains part of it...
