Sidewalk scenes

So many things to see, in a short one-block walk yesterday. All manner of activities posted in the Book Nook window and on the yoga bulletin board. Something for anybody of almost any persuasion!

I've always liked the old-style circus typefaces, tho I'm puzzled by the anachronistic spelling of custom in its midst. Then there is the shop's fun with security (below).

A decorated window at the Outfitters features both fall symbols on the left side and bandana handkerchiefs on the right side.

And finally I have seen one of those discrete little bits of animal graffiti that's showing up around town. It looks to be a decal on the lamp post -- note how one ear has almost disappeared. Note too how small the rabbit is, as compared to that bolt. As for the splash of color below, I'm not sure if it was intended as a little critter or is merely that, an accidental splash of yellow.

While I was inspecting the rabbit and the yellow whatever, a young woman stood nearby with her back to me. The duck on the back of her tee fit in very well with the graffiti theme.

Over at Batterman's, the auction place, display items were being moved from the sidewalk, back inside.

But I was able to get a picture of this marvel leaning against the building before it was stowed for the night. The riverboat is 3-D and, as I understand it, the paddle wheel turns when the unit is plugged in. The little box to the left houses an 8-track tape player (remember those?) This could liven things up in my office if I were so careless as to attend this week's auction.

Mirror, mirror on the wall

There it was, leaning up against the tiny white cottage. An large, ornate mirror, for which there was no room. The young woman had emptied her U-Haul and furniture, some of it quite fine, spilled over into the street. Overseeing the lot was a supersized plush bear. The YW and I chatted, briefly, and I continued my walk. I've no idea what has become of the wonderful left-overs from this particular long-distance move.

Street scenes

So he saw this neat set of new lawn furniture out front of Albertson's. It looked comfy. Why not?

This kid liked his space -- the entire parking lot of the former Shuttle-U depot up on Whipple at Ruth Street, all completely to himself while he listened to music and maybe played a game.

Red shirt simply looked tired. Small backpack -- but a large bag. And that street goes uphill.

Street scenes -- a place to sit

I'm all for getting people out of their autos and onto their feet. Like me. But there are important considerations in designing spaces for pedestrians. Perhaps the most important -- making sure there are places to sit and just watch what's going on.

Or maybe providing a seat for the occasional busker. Music always makes for a more interesting street experience.

This is the style of bench in the middle of town erected by the city or maybe by the Chamber of Commerce. Not sure which. Reasonably attractive, though this particular bench is certainly hot in the summer. Should have been on the other side of the sidewalk, under the awnings!

This bench, similar, faces toward the corner planters. I'm not sure which view is preferable, though the benches down by the Chase Bank are shaded -- very important in the hot months.

Some business provide their own seating...

And, in some cases, it's an advertiser who pays for a place to rest one's feet.

Here's an attractive bit of seating on Gurley (tho I've seldom seen it in use.)

Even more interesting -- a comfy place to look at all those booklets with the real estate adverts, if indeed anyone is interested in buying property these days!! No, you won't see me on any of these neat benches or seats in the next couple of days -- that much advertised pair of storms is indeed dumping wonderful, beautiful, very wet water all over Prescott right at this moment and possibly for the next day or so.
