Perhaps my experience of cities is limited, but I've always associated hanging baskets of flowers with Victoria BC. If other cities encourage such a nice touch, bully for them. I didn't really expect such frills on the Last Frontier, however.
It was a grand surprise -- and you know how much I love those! I've seen gorgeous floral welcomes at places of business...
...as well as along city streets...
...and even out in the far boondocks, such as the pay-up-here, souvenir & T-shirt shop that was the first stop on our family outing to the drive-up glacier (described in great detail at OmegaMom's blog tonight.)
Not what you were expecting from Alaska? I promise something more suitable for the he-man in a forthcoming post. Bears, maybe. Or fish -- how about salmon?
Linkage: Warren, over at Touch Wind, happened into Prescott this weekend & was lucky enough to catch a bit of graffiti before Tombo got there...

:P I posted pics to flickr in February, they just never made it into a blog post. :) Besides - Rich got there before I did anyway. :)
I do have to say that I really like Warran's first more than the ones I got.
And the flowers are nice, but a salmon-eating bear post will be much appreciated for the macho men in the crowd. :)
Lovely flowers. I guess the season in Alaska is a short one for flora. Yeah, let's see some of the teaming wildlife.
tombo -- that was an unusual piece of graffiti -- I have to admit that the standard style becomes rather tired after a while. I've even seen it up here in the north woods.
steve -- I haven't seen a single teeming wildlife, just the family cats, dog & turtle. Oh, yes, seagulls, of course. Nary a walrus nor moose. I'll figure out something else in the manly category.
gorgeous!

Welcome, Arlene -- as a florist, you probably know far better than I just where hanging baskets are most popular.... And I'm guessing that Washington might well be one of the states...
