As Americans, we do an awful lot of moving stuff from here to there and then to elsewhere. Much of this activity is in the course of doing business -- especially businesses that serve the homeowner.
For example, in the back of this thoroughly cartooned up pickup are a hose and other tools necessary to fight termites and other household pests.
Often, the truck is hauling another means of transportation. Above, a stripped down bicycle; below, a pontoon boat and below that, three or four quads for ripping around the outback.
Household stuff lands in the back of a pickup often. Towels.
A chair. A mattress.
This looks like a safe that was heading for a new home.
A well equipped painter above, a contractor below.
This trailer opened up to reveal tooling to repair broken pipes (above). The yardman below announced his trade with the rack of tools at the rear of the truck cab plus a riding mower on the trailer. The rack of yard tools, common on trucks hereabouts, reminds me of the iconic signs posted once upon a time by European tradesmen for a populace that had not yet learned to read.
I'm not sure if this truck was toting glass, tho it appears to be equipped for that use.
Two totally different uses for a truck: above, veggie distribution from a Chino Valley farm for members of a coop buying group, and, below, a traditional Western pickup load.

That which is called a pickup your way, is a ute (utility, not an indian) here; the use of which is exactly the same--the hounds have to be chained though.
Hermano
Great shots and great variety:)
Good selection, GJ. The last picture is a classic!
I never owned one, but I can see how they can come in handy.
Yea, great final photo! But, in my area, the furry friends have to be leashed when they ride in the back.
~Anon in AV.
bro -- in these parts, a ute is an SUV, though certainly the pickup is the more ute of the two vehicles.
change -- I've got even more variety amongst the outtakes; I'll probably have to do a Part II one of these days.
cat-A -- curiously enough, that is the only dogs-in-pickup picture I've ever managed to get.
steve -- to be a proper Arizonan, a pick-up is vitally necessary.
anon av -- yeah, when the number of escaping Californians reaches the tipping point, we'll probably have to restrain our pooches too.
I love this post!!
meggie -- it was fun putting it together ... and collecting the pictures. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did.
You covered a wide range in this post. The trailer full of ATVs caused me to wince in pain. The three classic, back-of-the-pickup dogs brought a big smile to my face.
Not a bad eye, for a cat person.
boonie -- for my money, most of the ATVs, quads, etc., should be used for around-town errands, travelling to work, etc. BTW, we cat people have to be very alert and not miss any of those dog-things out there. Who knows what they might do.
I never fail to be amazed at the subjects you ferret out for these photo essays. I feel that I am really getting to know Prescott.
avus -- maybe it's what comes from a lifetime career as an editor of a magazine covering a very limited field of interest -- you have to keep coming up with new ways of seeing the same old same old. But, actually I really enjoy being out there and catching new glimpses into the local scenery.
