Post Script: Granite Dells

I received these two pictures in my email this morning -- a response to last night's post about my visit to the bones of the old Granite Dells lake and pavilion. Time: 1967. Friend Bobbi sent them; she had noted that the two choices for swimming in or near Prescott were either in a stock tank or at the Dells! Thanks, Bobbi. Quite a contrast with the remains of the lake!

How times have changed! Can you imagine a city or county govt. allowing such a swimming lake today? More: can you imagine a couple daring to operate such a business in this day of liability above all?

great pictures! You're certainly right about how the times have changed regarding liability concerns and such.

bro -- not familiar with that phrase, but it sure sounds ominous.

warren -- would anyone disagree that we're overprotected today?

lady -- was the effluent from the sewage plant still going into Watson Lake back then... and thence into Granite Creek?

jarart -- yes, they are.

My friends in Yorkshire shoed me a photo of a place they'd visited locally, of beautiful rocks and pools and waterfalls. I remembered swimming there as a kid, but they said there's be no way you could do that now. It was so lovely. These pics look very nostalgic.

The little girl in photo #2 has a broken arm. LOL

Did she break it at the Dells?

lucy -- the health & safety nuts are taking all the joy out of life!

anon -- the kid with the broken arm is how my friend was able to determine the year the photo was taken.
