Lucky granddotter! In contrast, my depression-era childhood was deprived: my ever-practical mother refused to spend a single, hard-earned penny on cotton candy. Ever. All air, no substance, she would say. She was right, of course, but that's beside the point. Which is that cotton candy is the essence of a holiday fair: sweet, fluffy and insubstantial.
And oh so tempting.
You don't even mind the sticky, gooey aftermath. All that's required is a practical dose of water. Not even soap.

Cotton candy translates to fairy floss in the really deep south and it's just as sticky.
Has OM done a post via your machine of late--the last I have is 27/6??
Hermano
She is such a gorgeous little girl! Who could resist her? I loved it when I was a child, but sugar no long excites me. A little sad to think that joy is gone, but I still love to see the littlies enjoy it!!
HAHA, fond memories of chowing down cotton candy at the county fair as a kid. Then buzzing on a sugar high for an hour afterward. :)
That last shot is the greatest! Good thing she had time to run off the sugar rush. We were so pleased to meet her and her Mom and spend a pleasant visit with every one, under the shade of the trees.
It's been many years since I ate and made a mess with some.
bro -- gee -- I never heard the term fairy floss! As for OM, no posts since 27/6. She's been too busy.
meggie -- the little one is truly hard to resist. I can still get a sugar kick, tho not from sugar & empty air. Take baklava, for example. I could take some of that right this instant.
tombo -- funny thing is that I've never had a proper sugar high, tho I've been known to chow down on high-sugar items other than cotton candy. Those pecan pralines that the Sson brought this visit, for example. (Thank you, Sson & daughter)
jarart -- I'm so glad we caught you between trips. BTW, those are awesome rodeo shots that you've recently posted.
steve -- perhaps you can tell me if cotton candy is an international goodie or strictly USA-an.
Great photos of your young and younger ones. Sorry I couldn't get to the blogger gathering but as you can see from my blog, I had my hands full!
GJ, I haven't run across it here in Germany, but it wouldn't surprise me if they had some at the bigger fests.
cat-A -- we missed you!
steve -- it's certainly a classic carnival sort of food.
