An on/off switch, of course. I would like to imagine that when you want this tree to leaf out, you turn the switch on, and when you are ready for bright red or gold leaves, you turn the tree off. There are several of these modified trees at our Courthouse Square.

On the basis of your thoughts on the subject - I just hope they do not get round to putting these switches on humans! (But who knows what the future will bring?)
Mr.Avus, I believe that these switches can only be applied to living creatures that are many times taller than they are wide. We, as a species lucked out-- this time.
Hehehehehe! Now, if they'd only put in a dimmer switch, so we could set fall colors at variable intensities...
