Few Things Can Beat a Good Brother!

What a godsend a good brother is to a widow-lady! Rested from his long trip across both Australia and the Pacific, he went to work on my jungle, starting with the man-eating Arizona rose that leans over my porch and path with the kind of thorns that only wild roses produce.
Don't worry -- fine new canes will sprout up next spring; the flowers all blossom on new growth. So speaketh my mom, authority on growing roses!

Next -- a Siberian elm that came back after I hacked it off a couple of years ago. Finally, he tackled the jungle directly up the hill (below). More to come when he returns from a visit to his daughters & grandchildren.

A good bro also cooks...

...does dishes (every night, since he arrived)...

...and washes his own laundry! He's great company and also a terrific partner in a fast two-person finish to the Sunday NYTimes crossword and similar puzzles. In short, my bro is a awesomely good kid!

He considered buying his family that big container of Elvis popcorn we found over at Big Lots the other day -- but that would have been like carrying coals to Newcastle, since they all live in Elvis' hometown, Memphis, where he's currently visiting before a return for Mom's 104th birthday party. Then it's back to Oz. I'll miss him!

granny j..may I say that you are so blessed? But then, so is he. And your mother, for having the two of you. He just looks like he belongs in some delightful, funny, uplifting movie! Thank you for allowing us to meet him!

Yes, never *worry* about a wild rose. They are ~ well, they are too good at survival. And they hurt toooo! :-(

Great bro you have there!!! Wish he lived closer to you.

Since I started reading your blog last week, Bro has been a staple. I can see why you'll miss him.

But I'm really here to say I'm enjoying your posts.

SnS -- I too wish he were just a little bit closer, like, say Phoenix or Flagstaff...

RE in AZ -- Thanks for stopping by. Bro happened to be a major event in my life this past couple of weeks. However, stick around for many other adventures.
